Seriously, how many assemblers rollout diesel vehicles with conventional fuel systems today? Hyundai has the Starex, Accent, Santa Fe, i30 and Getz equipped with the Bosch common rail system...Kia has the common rail Sorento and Sedona. Ford has the Everest, Ranger and Focus, and Mazda, the BT-50. All Toyota Fortuner, Hilux, Innova and Hi-Ace models are commonrail... and so are the Mitsubishi Montero and Pajero, Nissan Navara, and Isuzu Alterra and DMax.

With the strong direction on environmental compliance and fuel efficiency, there's no escaping diesel common rail. BUT, how many can actually do correct repair of commonrail pumps and injectors? The common rail system is so precise that even a 0.5mm difference in specification is too great to keep the vehicle running within engine manufacturer's performance standards...and then there's the issue on access to correct test data. Trust us. We tested a dozen China-made replacement parts and none passed our tests. That is how sensitive the system is...and that is how much quality equipment and parts are valued.

The injection pressures on which modern common rail diesel engines run have risen constantly over the last few years. 2,000 bar is nowadays already normal – with a rising tendency.

The new pressure limits require a new testbench. Enter the Bosch EPS 708 -- the latest Bosch test bench developed especially for the testing of common rail components including piezo injectors and is designed for test pressures of up to 2,200 bar. It has a completely redesigned clamping set for up to six car injectors to be tested all at the same time.

In addition, the multiple clamp set can also test up to four commercial vehicle injectors. The latest EPS add-on is the piezo Common Rail injector retrofit kit, which can be used to test modern injector systems from Bosch, Denso and Siemens/Continental. The testing of Delphi injectors is currently in preparation.
